Mitosis is used for cell division! When a cell goes through motisis it goes through six stages; Prophase, prometaphase,
metaphase, anaphase, telophase, and cytokinesis.

During prophase the chromosomes become visible in the cell, and the nuclear membrane breaks apart. And microtubials assemble in a spindle.

During prometaphase the nuclear membrane disolves, and proteins attach tp the centiomeres creating kinetochous.

In metaphase the spindle fibers align the chromosomes along the middle of cell nucleus.

In anaphase the paired chromosomes seperate and move to oppisite sides. The chromosomes move along spindle microtubiles, using motor proteins.

In telophase the chromotids arrive at oppisite polars of the cell, a new membrane froms aroung the daughter nuclei. The chromosomes disperse and are no longer visible. New membranes are fromed.

Last in cytokinesis, a fiber composed of a protein calleds a actin around the center of the cell contracts splitting the cell into two cells.

Thats the jist of it. but miosis in animal cells is different that in plant cells just slightly, if you want to know more e-mail me.

Mitosis is a process in which body cells are replicated to create two identical cells. Mitosis would be used for skin cells, liver cells, anything other than sex cells. Sex cells are replicated through meiosis.

AFAIK, it is a way for cell division to occur. I am not certain what you mean by usage. You could say it is "used" by cells for dividing themselves.
