Implants are usually done in stages. In my opinion I would get one and see how my body handles it as they can be really expensive. Your body can also reject the implant. And as far as I know it is not something that your Dentist will warranty. Just curious, why not bridges or even a denture-a little less expensive and not so risky.

After receiving a bone grafting a few years ago, I had 6 implants inserted in my upper jaw (mandible) all at once in the hospital. The bone graft didn't take and all 6 implants fell out as my "normal" mandible has been made very THIN do to cleft palate surgery as a child... A few months later, I went back to the hospital and had 6 more VERY MUCH LONGER implants inserted into the mandible and they are all still there and now I have a great set of "screwed in teeth"...... The bone around the inserted implants takes about 3 -5 months to heal so, if you can't afford more then one or two at a time, then you are looking at almost a YEAR before teeth could be placed on the implants (if you are having two on one side)....it actually took the doctors 2 and 1/2 YEARS before they had 6 viable implants secured and teeth added. Was it worth it? Well, my health insurance paid for the implants (both times) and the bone grafting due to the cleft palate being a medical cause for needing the implants---I cannot wear a plate due to the cleft palate AND I had no real teeth of my own on top.. Now I have a beautiful set of teeth...The teeth were about $8000 and that is NO typo---but because I went to Columbia Presbyterian Dental School which has a Maxiofacial department---and they used me for classroom lectures, I received quite a good deal $1200 for the teeth....a full set of uppers.

I would advise getting both done at the same time. Going thru a second surgery and more anesthesia is more risky.
