because when a man asks he giving the ring like a promise to get the other two. But I do agree a big old engagement ring is a waste. That why I told my freace when he was my BF I didn't want a big diamond ring, just a small sliver one no jewel.

The bride receives only the wedding ring at the ceremony. The engagement ring is received prior to the wedding, as a symbol of a promise to marry. During the ceremony, she wears it on her right hand. After the ceremony, it is placed on the hand behind the wedding ring. An engagement ring is not necessary, but it is usually desired by most women. After the ceremony, and for ever after, they are both worn together as a set.

It's the brides choice. If you feel it's a waste, the find a better use for the capital. The rigs are only symbols. The couples wishes are what matter, and, in the end, it's the bride who wears the ring(s). Symbols cannot have more power than we choose to give them, so, follow the choice best suited for you. But, BEWARE THE RING POLICE!

Lots of people only get a wedding ring. It is a matter of personal taste. I did not get an engagement ring as we chose to use the money to build our business. Many years late I received a diamond ring for my birthday and love it. I wear both as I like rings.

The engagement ring is the one that shows a husband's intentions, the wedding band is usually much simpler and is designed to wear for life.
It's not mandatory but the future wife will often buy the wedding band for the groom. It is a nice and rewarding gesture.

Why would you only wear the wedding ring? Wear them both together...have them joined if you only want one.
