I've never understood that. Even when I was a Christian.

Me neither Shaker. I don't think anyone really understands it, they just repeat it. It doesn't make sense.

It can't. Jesus didn't really acomplish a lot here. He did not remove sin from the world - or evil. He did not remove original sin.

It is actualy not true that only blood sacrifice can atone for sins. If that was so - how do you think Jews get forgivness for sins today? Last time I checked their weren't sacrificing a lamb in temple.

The truth is that there was no bridge between man and God. The Law could be fully followed by man. Sins were forgiveness through direct repentance to God. Paul's views on the OT and Law don't match what is actually in the OT. Nor do his quotes match what the actual OT verses say.

So I can understand the confusion.

I never truly understood the concept myself. What doesn't make sense as well if Jesus is God in the flesh and he had the power that he had why didn't he just say that him sacrificing himself would wipe away "original sin" that Adam and Eve brought into the world. Oh well it is what it is.

before Jesus, the Jews needed to make a blood (lamb) sacrifice to atone for their sins. Jesus the "lamb" shed his blood for us all so that we no longer have to make animal sacrifices for our sins.

I don't understand why so many people don't get it. I've understood it ever since the 3rd grade.

The answers with the down arrows are hitting the point the best - i guess you were asking to try to disprove Christianity though, and all of the Christians are cheering you on. But if you want to know the real answer, that is it.

It's the revelation of the mystery which was kept secret since the world began. Living a sinless life and paying the penalty for sin gives him victory over sin and death. It's the power of the gospel! He comes and lives within us when we believe and we are made new creatures in Christ. The new creature is spiritually minded not carnally minded.

You have been hoodwinked by this ridiculous tale of nonsense. This concept of offering sacrifices to appease the gods is old pagan baloney. Jesus is assumed to be the sacrifice, but who was supposed to be the one being appeased?
The reason you could never understand that story is because it is illogical and obviously a made-up fairy tale.

God cannot tolerate the presence of sin, but still loved mankind and wanted us to be with Him forever. Sin is what stands between us and God. Something was needed that had the power to cancel sin. That something was the sacrifice of Christ. With Christ's sacrifice, sins were washed away by the atoning blood of Christ, and humans were able to be accepted into God's kingdom with their sins fully pardoned by God. There was only one perfect sacrifice, and that was Christ. He paid the penalty for sin, and it was done freely. Do you want to pay the penalty for sin? Neither do I. Thankfully, we don't have to. Christ did it for us.

This is how much of mainstream Christianity understands it. There are other interpretations, as well.

Please follow the argument below:

1. God exists.
2. God is infinite
3. God is holy
4. God is righteous
5. Therefore, God is infinitely holy and just.

6. Furthermore, God speaks out of the character of what He is.
7. God spoke the Law
8. Therefore, the Law is in the heart of God and is a reflection of God's character since it is Holy and Good.

9. Furthermore, to break the Law of God is to offend Him since it is His Law that we break. This sin results in an infinite offense because God is infinite.
10. Furthermore, it is also right that God punish the Law breaker. To not punish the Law breaker (sinner) is to allow an offense against His holiness to be ignored.

11. God says that the person who sins must die (be punished). The wages of sin is death.
12. The sinner needs to escape the righteous judgment of God or he will face damnation.
13. But, no sinner can undo an infinite offense since to please God and make things right, he must obey the Law, which is the standard of God's righteous character.
14. But the sinner cannot fulfill the law because he is sinful (in the flesh).
15. Since the sinner cannot fulfill the law and satisfy God, it follows that only God can do this.

16. Jesus is God in flesh.
17. Jesus was also a man under the Law.
18. Jesus became sin for us and bore our sins in His body on the cross, thus fulfilling the Law.
19. Therefore, salvation is by grace through faith since it was not by our keeping the Law, but by Jesus, God in flesh, who fulfilled the Law and died in our place.

20. A person must believe and claim Christ’s atoning sacrifice as their own in order to be made righteous before God. Such a true believer will be known from their works as they seek to keep Christ’s commandments.

IN the old testament days, God required a sin offering (normally a lamb) to pay for the people's sins. And that lamb had to be perfect and have no abnormalities. Basically the best lamb of the bunch. When Jesus came, He was perfect and did nothing wrong. He was the final Lamb sacrifice. When He died, He was really a sacrifice to pay for our sins. When He arose from the grave, He conquered sin and therefore defeated death. Now we no longer have to worry about going to hell if you really believe in Jesus and what He did for you. God loves you so much that He sent His Son to die for you. Imaging looking down from Heaven and seeing your son in so much pain and agony. Image Him calling to you to, asking why you left Him. God did that when He sent Jesus. And He did it for you. He died for you. God and Jesus went through that pain and torture just so that you could celebrate in Heaven with Jesus one day.
Amazing, isn't it?
God bless
