Many veterinary hospitals will work with you on some sort of payment plan if you cannot afford treatment. Tell them upfront that you don't have the money, but can make payments. If they turn you down, go somewhere else. It's likely that you'll find someone who will be willing to do this. If all else fails, or if you're in a position where even small payments aren't an option, give him up to a shelter, or contact a Boston Terrier rescue. It's better than putting him down or keeping him untreated. Best of luck.

See if your vet will work out a payment plan for you. Heartworms are expensive to treat and it could be long term. Our cat has heartworms and his last visit for checkup and xrays cost nearly 300 dollars. Then it is the preventative every 3 months that he is on year round, and that is about 30 dollars. The nice thing with dogs is that they can treat the heartworms and get rid of it fairly quick. With cats they just have to deal with it until the worms die, and then most cats don't survive that. Dogs respond much much better to the treatments. Good luck. I hope your Boston is better soon.

some vets will help u with the cost and all but some don't but its really expensive and if u don't get the dog treated the dog will die b/c of them their heart will fill up with them and stop there heart which takes like 2 months to do but i think its worth paying to get the problem fixed b/c the animal is party of the family and all dont' put the dog down unless its WAY TOO late which it is cheeper to do that but don't b/c u can help the dog if its not and it will be able to live if u can't affored it u could drop the dog off and the vet will do it with money they are given but u can't get u'r dog back

Has your dog been tested for heartworms and diagnosed as having them by your vet? The only way to know if he has them is by a bloodtest done by your vet.
If your dog indeed is heartworm positive the vet will advise you as to proper course of treatment as well as all costs involved.
If your dog does have heartworm and it is left untreated your dog will die.
