I'm talking about records of injuries and/or illnesses that you know should be in your files that are lost, at least according to the VA.

I know it has happened, I'm just curious to see how wide-spread it is.

Are you talking about sprayed with Lysol to get your germs off them or have you uncovered a vast conspiracy to pretend that a war did not exist and that your injuries are not service-related?

This happened to my best friend's husband he has been out for about 3 years. About a 11/2 years ago he was found to have an injury sustained in the Military (in his medical record) that was still causing a problem and he would need on going medical treatment and was applying for the VA to treat him. They lost his medical record with the injury. Luckily he checked his medical record out before he completely check out of the service and made copies, so he has proof. My husband is active duty and he routinely checks out his medical record and makes copies of the content. He also does this with his Service Record Book. It does seem that things get lost when it is time for monies to be paid out. Good luck.

once I retired from the Air tension, i replaced into counseled to maintain a private photocopy set of my scientific recors. Your final accountability base could have sent the origenals to the VA once you separated. Unfortunatly, if the VA has misplaced them there are not any backups.

I was advised by my unit and the VA to make copies of my records when I got out and had no problem with the VA administration during my claim process.

I've not had that issue. When I challenged my VA rating, I quoted my medical records by page, date, and doctor, and my rating was upgraded. Since I doubt that they took my word for it, their copy must be complete.
