Were they able to live just on this and nothing else? How did they prepare it?

Yes they lived on just that but twice the amount fell on Friday evening for Sabbath.
They lived on it 40 years and were healthy. Nobody was sick, until they had more rebellion and whining....then He struck more down.

It was nutritionally complete, yes, but human want wasn't--they weren't satisfied eating the same thing all the time so they wanted real meat as well, so G-d sent them pigeons. Depending on how good of a person you were, it was easy for you to prepare it or not. If you were a really good person, you could just eat it and it would taste how you wanted it to. If you weren't so good, you had to cook it so you could eat it.
