In Arab culture and under Islamic law, if your father is a Muslim, so are you. And once a Muslim, always a Muslim. You cannot go back. In Islamic eyes, Obama is certainly a Muslim. He may think he's a Christian, but they do not.

"During the five years that we would live with my stepfather in Indonesia, I was sent first to a neighborhood Catholic school and then to a predominantly Muslim school...puzzling out the meaning of the muezzin's call to evening prayer"

Obama is unapologetic in saying he has a "personal relationship with Jesus Christ."
"It wasn't an epiphany, - It was much more of a gradual process for me. I know there are some people who fall out. Which is wonderful. God bless them ... I think it was just a moment to certify or publicly affirm a growing faith in me."

I think your faith is what you consider it. If he considers himself a Christian then how can anyone else tell him he isn't? My mother was Jewish, so Jewish faith claims I am Jewish, but I do not practice Judiasm. Other people cannot define someone's faith, it is something people hold in their hearts not defined by others.

Contradictory to general understanding, Islam does not pose itself to anyone. One could accept it or leave it, it is not a problem for the faith.
