Because they don't think that calling people
unintelligent
fairy-tale worshippers
moronic believers
idiot fundamentalists
etc.
is rude, they think they are stating fact. I remember an article I read in Time magazine between a famous Atheist and a Christian scientist (the guy who headed the team that decoded the full DNA thing). The article was long, and was basically a synopsis of their debate.
I noticed that included in the article was that the Christian had to actually ask the Atheist to refrain from making rude comments ... I found it interesting that with all the really good debate they had going they found it necessary to include that. Apparently it was so noticeable that it merited mention.

Atheists do seem to be unusually rude as a group. I can't speak for them all, but when I was an atheist (in my naive youth) I was extremely rude to Christians in particular, largely because it bothered me that they actually thought they knew and had something I didn't! How dare they not recognize that the universe was limited to my ignorance! Why, I would make those people who did not acknowledge my omniscience pay with the harshest of ridicule. Of course, I was blind to my own motives (people of all kinds are rarely objective about themselves). That said, I don't think most atheists are anywhere near as rude as those who contribute to Yahoo Answers. I suspect many of them are quite young and immature. As one matures they tend to regret the kind of childishness we see here. Also, I think the anonymity of Yahoo Answers allows people to release frustrations more emotionally than they would in a face-to-face setting with neighbors etc.

Please stop making generalizations about groups. They're just not true.
Unfortunately places where you can remain anonymous such as Y!A brings out the best in some people and the worst in others. How many people act exactly the same here as they do in real life?

Many think that not believing in God makes them superior to the great unwashed masses, which is ironic, since that's exactly the attitude that ebbbil Xtians and stoopid Moslems have. Ahh, hypocrisy at its finest...

Maybe out of frustration that "Christians" are trying to get their laws passed into secular laws, and such conditions generate frustrations as deemed by human nature.
Most atheists aren't rude to Christians unless a Christian tries to force his/her ways upon the atheist.

Because their standard is "a little better than the Christians".

Why are Christians so rude?
Why is anyone?
I don't care which group you talk about, some people in it will be rude.

take a step back for a second and consider this with a wide-eyed point of view . would you consider it rude if someone told you that you deserve neverending hellfire for not believing in their god. considering that, merely being skeptical of someone else's religion might seem a lot less rude.

Being atheist , being human in general free of false worship of bullsh!t god/s is...great
Atheists love life and live it to the fullests we make a diffrence in our lives and htel ives of thoes around us.
Christians live for their "heaven" and when they die they'll be like..."damn, we f%&*ed up... " they waste their lives with meaningless prayer (but then again, so do all religions) while we live life...normally.
