I heard a man talking on his cellphone outside my apartment door. (I'm nosy, so I got close to the door to listen) Well they guy then tried to open my door! He didn't get in...but what should I do?

Chances are he was on the phone and didn't realize what floor he was on... It's disturbing, but likely benign. It does, however, highlight the importance of keeping our doors properly locked.

Notify the police. Even if you don't have a description, you should report it. This guy may be trying to find unlocked apartments and homes to break into. Or, it could be he just went to the wrong door. You should still report it. He may try another apt in your building. And, the police may be aware of break-ins in your area.

Stop posting silly questions. And dial 911; file a police report, keep your windows and doors locked. Sleep with a can of mace and a cell phone. Maybe a stun gun under your pillow. Not funny. God bless****

Maybe he was talking to someone who lives in the same appartment building as you and they told him to walk right in.
Also get a weapon ready in case I'm wrong.
Have the phone ready, and your yelling vocals ready. People near should hear you screaming.
