Because there is a fanatic, militant faction of Islam that is intent on extending its power through the use of force. Its got little to do with religon and everything to do with power and conquest 'in the name of religion'. And its not directed only at the US. Militant Islam is attacking around the world. Spain, England, Austrailia, Somalia, Phillipines to name a few.. They are on the move.
This fanatical wing has hijacked Islam. That is, they are exercising their power, committing terrorism, murder, in the name of a religion, as a means to extend power. Christianity did this during the Crusades, as did other religions at various points in their history.
All of the other major religions, for all of their bloody past, seem to have learned a thing or two along the way. When the priest-pedophile case hit the Catholic church, there was a huge outrage on the part of the members directed squarely at the Christian hierarchy and demanding that something be done. Priests got identified, excommunicated and prosecuted. Donations dried up, churches closed, etc. in response to the outrage of the membership.
You don't see that behavior in the Muslim community. As bad as child abuse is, sanctioned terrorism in the name of allah and the 'Religon of Peace' is far worse. Muslims are not calling for an end to terrorism, a closing down of terrorist mosques or silencing of imams that preach hate. The general Muslim community stands silent. Why?
And that is what is particularly repugnant, how these supposedly 'peacable' Muslims stand on the sidelines and say and do NOTHING while these fanatics strap bombs to their kids and tell them to go play in the street. Why isn't more done to help identify potential terrorists, inform on what goes on in the radical mosques, etc.. Are they afraid, or just riding the coattails of those willing to do the dirty work? Who knows, either way its sickening to think that there are people in that community that can help, but do nothing.

What you are asking is BS...people of all faith do dumb @$$ things. Yes, you hear a lot about suicide bomber being Muslim but we also have a VERY Bias media that tell us what Mr. Bush wants us to know and hear. Open you mind and stop being lead by the nose or neck.
Have you ever heard of the Crusades...that was a lot of killing done by Christians and Muslims.

Because a while back these schools got started in the Mid East that taught among other things, radical Islam, rejection of westernization, and general hatred of the US (madrasas, were they called?). Then the Taliban gained power and they started Al Quaeda.

Because there is a message in the Islamic religion that some people take far too literally and act irrationally and out of control.

It says that there is a militant factor in some factions of Islam. It does not mean that all Islamics are terrorists. I do not share their beliefs, but I know Muslims who are decent, honest people.

It says that some of the radical leaders of people who practice the faith of Islam have no qualms about lying to their followers and telling them that if they engage in terrorism in the name of Allah that they will get a guaranteed place in Heaven. That's what it says.

Well it sure doesn't give them a good reputation now does it?
And they all say they're doing it in the name of god. Whose god? Gods exist to help further humankind along in their spiritual evolution. If god wanted to blow things up, I'm pretty sure he'd just do it all in one shot and get it over with.
