What is the big difference between typical digital cameras (Nikon D200) and other cameras like sony xcd 910?

The price is comparable, but the sony only has like 2 Mpix while the Nikon is 10MPix. They are two different TYPES of cameras, but they are both ccd cameras. The sony can be controlled by computer- is that all it is? I need a digital camera expert here.

Ok, I need someone to really look at the cameras. They are two completely different types. The nikon is one that you would use for typical photography while the sony is one you connect to a computer and do experiments with. I am wondering if I can do experiments with the Nikon. I want to know why the Sony is so expensive when it only has 1/10th of the pixels.

So if I am just doing an experiment with 2 images, are there any drawbacks with the Nikon or do I just get the benefit of 10Mpix?

The Sony XCD 910 is a black & white 1.4 megapixel camera for various industrial applications. It's super heavy duty. It can do 15 frames per second, 365 days a year.
The Nikon D200 is a semi-professional dSLR. It can do 5 frames per second, but it WON'T transfer your pictures for you, and it will need major repairs after about 100,000 pictures. If the D200 could sustain 5FPS (which it can't for more than say, 25 pictures... I own one) you'd wear out the shutter in under 6 hours.
Yeah, they both use CCD sensors. They also both have bits of metal and plastic inside. But that's s about ALL they have in common.

If you just took ONE picture with each, the Nikon D200 would blow the Sony xcd 910 out of the water: 10 megapixels in color vs 1.4 megapixel black and white.
