okay. my boyfriend left his ex a comment telling her that she should "shadow" him next year because they're going to the same high school and that he'll shadow her. what does that meeeannnn? ! help?!!?!?

To shadow someone means to follow that person, through whatever means, in a way that allows the shadower to be undetected by the subject.
I'm pretty sure that your boyfriend wants to keep in contact, secretly, with his ex.

I thought it meant to follow and keep up with them. Always be around them or something like that, but I'm not exactly up on the lingo.

To me, that means being close, closely following, or in this sense, keeping close track of everything they do.

follow them around and snoop with everything they they
are doing or if they can, whoever they're talking to etc.
same stuff you may hire a private detective for..... why?
sounds dumb to me.
