Water weighs 8.33 pounds per gallon. One divided by 8.33 gives you .12 gallons and some miniscule change.

This volume measurement applies to liquid water. The volume of ice would be greater since water expands when frozen.

EDIT: 1/8th of a gallon is close. The actual practical quantity is a little larger then 1/8th, very close to 4/33.

A pint (16 ounces) of water weighs one pound, so with a gallon you could make eight pounds of ice cubes. As luck would have it, that's how much a typical bag of ice weighs when you buy it pre-bagged.

2 cups (16 fluid oz) of water weighs about 1 pound.

Assuming no evaporation during the freezing process, 2 cups of water which is 1/8th of a gallon gives you 1 pound of ice.

I'm guessing one pound of water which is 16 ounces or 2 cups. I've never tried it though. Freeze 2 cups and see if it weights a pound.
