They are both quite frightening, both used to control, both used to kill, and both have never had their existance confirmed (you never find out if Big Brother is real or not, ditto God).
So, what is the difference?

There are two differences:

1) God requires prayers; Big Brother doesn't.

2) God requires payment, Big Brother doesn't.

At this point, it's Big Brother ahead by two.

The derivation of the word "gossip" is "God's sib" or "God sib". So effectively, Big Brother is filling the role of the grapevine that confirms your undeniable status as great.

God holds the role of Father. Therefore, I think a strict comparison would be between Big Brother's father and BibleGod. (A capital in the middle of the word gives it a ring of authenticity, or not - like WordPerfect.)

The analogy of the grapevine for gossip likely acknowledges the role of alcohol.

Anyway, back to the subject. Who is Big Brother's father? Is it the "cutting"?

It's all getting rather Biblical, considering that the English language is constructed a bit that way. God doesn't actually have a sibling, but considering that 2 Peter 3 shows a scenario where people excuse their disbelief on account of their father's real or imagined death (echoes of Nietzsche?) This reminds me of Deuteronomy 4:28: "There you will worship gods of wood and stone made by human hands, which cannot see or hear or eat or smell." Does Big Brother really know what's going on? Then how come the contestants have tell-all interviews after they leave the house?

If Big Brother were analogous to BibleGod, then what happened to love? 1 John 4:20: "If we say we love God yet hate a brother or sister, we are liars. For if we do not love a fellow believer, whom we have seen, we cannot love God, whom we have not seen."
