One of my close friends just got out of a relationship that lasted about 5 years. Once out of the relationship, she began becoming close friends with a girl in which she has now initiated a relationship with. She constantly is asking for my advice telling me that she is confused and that she is istill in love with her ex. I think that she jumped too quickly onto another relationship without giving herself time to heal. Plus she has been rather irrational and her behavior pattern has changed a whole lot. She has began smoking but I believe that she may be using drugs. What is the best way to approach this situation? I really would like to help her throughout these tough times, if I don't what kind of friend would I be?

hi... i hope your friend is ok... she probably IS still in love with her ex, and not prepared for another relationship right now.

seems as if she jumped from one relationship to the next, without taking time to grieve, or even explore her own world to discover what she wants and needs. after a break-up, it's important to take the time to readjust to life. in reality, it takes the average person 1-2 years to "get over" a lost relationship.

if you're concerned about your friend, i think the best approach would be to let her know she seems a little preoccupied and as if something is bothering her lately... let her know that you're just concerned and of course, are there for her if she needs you.

i think this would be a good way to approach it. and you wouldn't be intruding or giving unwanted advice or opinions, but offering her the alternative to take your support, should she want to open up.

don't forget to take care of YOU too.....
