You`re an atheist or a religious person, you die and you`re wrong about the afterlife: You meet God who asks you if you`d like to spend the eternity in Heaven(as described in the Christian Bible) or to be reduced to nothing(as if you never existed). What would you choose and why?

p.s. respect the scenario

why you people keep saying this is pascal`s wager? i wanna see what you think in a given hypothetical situation, i`m not trying to say it`s better safe than sorry or anything like that.

Gotta love how people will invariably deviate from the hypothetical scenario and dodge answering.... Anyway, I think I'd choose nonexistance personally... Endless bliss, no conflict, no hate, and no ******* challenges of any kind? No thank you, I'd rather go out without ever having been reduced to whatever state is necisary to actually enjoy that, and I still get to avoid feeling pain ever again.

PS: Heh, aparently people don't read details WELL at least, and assume you don't actually mean he is giving you a choice... You're right in that it has nothing to do with the wager, as under this scenario whatever you did in life and believed in, the result is the same.

Well if God asks me when I get there then I'll chose to go live in heaven. Sounds like a win win scenario.

I honestly can't see people chosing to be reduced to nothing willing. Those that claim such a thing now will reconsider when they get there.

But God giving us a choice after we die is a lot better situation then what Christians give us - that once we die it's too late.

Uh Oh...

If that happened people would probably want to continue to exist, but they would want an understanding for why things are the way they are. Pretty much everyone agrees it can be a pretty messed up world out there, and so they'll want to know the truth of the matter of all things. Once they had glimpsed the divine, the would want to continue existence.

However, what would happen to you would have to fit into everything as well. It might not be an eternity in Heaven as you believe it to be,

#1 when you die your sins are forgiven
#2 you go to sleep in the ground and await the resurrection. along with almost every other person that has died.
#3 you will be raised from death to life on earth and given a new body.
#4 you will be taught all about God and his purpose for you.
#5 you will live in a paradise and have abundant food, peaceful surroundings, what's not to like?
#6 if you chose not to believe in God or want to do things your own way you will be put to sleep in death never to be raised again.
#7 satan and his followers and death will be thrown into the lake of fire meaning the second death...no return.

Well I would look at this God, spit in his face and tell him I want nothing to do with him. Anyone that could kill over 2 million people (God did this in the bible) is hardly a loving being!

Reduce me to nothing I honestly don't care. Anything is better then being around a God like that!

To any human being the choice would be obvious, but I cant respect the scenario if its a fairytale now can I? Just because you want something to be true doesnt mean its going to. Honestly Man has made over 100,000 gods, that a pretty big gamble. lol, i rather just not play

In the Christian Bible you are not invited to spend eternity in heaven like it's a really cool party that you just happened to get invited to... Please don't mislead people!

Why ask an irrelevant question that is not really an option and waste peoples time? When you could be doing real searching and find out what the truth is!?

I already made that choice Alex and I will go to heaven. If I found out at the last moment that what I believe is wrong...it will still have been worth every moment of living.

I describe myself as agnostic....so I think its unknowanle 4 sure....but I believe in 'God', but not as one thing, not as an old man in the sky. I believe that what people call God is something in all of us. I believe that what Jesus and Mohammed and Buddha and all the rest said was right. It's just that the translations have gone wrong... I believe in something, definitely. I believe there is a force at work that you can't physically account for

My mom (a devout Christian) has posed this question to me, in a different fashion and I answered her this way. I would rather be wrong on my own terms, than wrong on someone elses.

I am Pagan. I chose to believe differently, so I'm going to opt for another option. I believe my spirit/soul is going to have some "down time" to reflect on the lessons I learned in this life, and prepare itself for the next life I will live.
