Yes, absolutely they can help. No, they will not make you look like Shiba He-Woman of the Jungle. Protein shakes (the good ones) have Whey protein in them. The reason why people drink protein shakes is because we find it hard to get quality protein in the amounts we need it to build muscles (both guys and gals).
However, if you really want to put on weight, some body builders use a weight gain additive - which is pure calories (some up to 3500 calories per serving!). If you are purely going for weight, use the weight gain - but it will all be fat. My advice to maintain your shape & look good - use protien shakes with moderate resistance training.

No, it won't do what you want from it.
You should just set out to eat a good, all round healthy diet. If you want to increase your size training would be good for you and you will of course have to increase your calorie intake to fuel your new hobby. I think that muscular women look great but not everyone does and I don't like powerful looking women. But good muscular definition keeps the good bits looking good. Protein supplements only really need to be taken if your training for huge muscles and I'd like to think you won't be doing that. But the best advice I can give is learn to love who you are. You're probably just fine.

If you referring to plain old protein drinks without added ingredients like growth factor or other junk, it's not going to affect your face or any other part of your body.
You can add a protein drink to your daily intake, but be sure to drink plenty of fluids too, because excess protein can be hard on your kidneys. You might to better to add healthy snacks, like fruits and dip, veggies and dip, cheese and crackers, healthy fats like nuts and reduced fat peanut butter; Add more whole grains to your diet, like a whole grain roll at dinner and cereal with fruit for breakfast. Drink 100% fruit juices. If you take in an extra 300-500 calories a day, you'll gradually put weight on. You don't really need gimmicks to do so.

if the muscles are not being stressed through exercise namely resistance training then they have no need for much protein. simply adding protein to the diet does not automatically increase muscle mass.
and no protein has no effect on the facial features..lol
protein from shakes are treated no differently then that from whole food sources, once digested it's all amino acids.
if you want to gain muscle you are going to have to exercise in someone. a lifetime of inactivity will catch up to you eventually, you need to do some form of regular exercise. the human body is not designed to be inactive

Stay away from all these types of foods that are are not natural and tend to have adverse effects in the long run. If you want to put on weight eat those foods that are fattening and tasty to eat such as: ripe and dry bananas and dates. The Ottoman sultans who loved their women on the plump side fed them with chick peas, green peas and humous (which is a very tasty chick peas paste). Also fattening in a healthy way is semolina pudding with milk or soya millk that pregnant women used to eat in the old days to increase their milk during lactation. Cereals and grains are fattening and you can find in health shops health foods like barley, spelt, buckwheat, in flakes or flour and relative products that are easy to cook. A bit of honey will also help. If you follow this type of diet in a few months you may put another answer in Yahoo Answers asking for help in losing weight.

They are protein shakes, not testosterone shakes...there's no reason they should affect your facial hair growth or cause you to look or sound "manly".
Do some research online on protein shakes/supplements and educate yourself. ☺ Then you'll know what you are taking, and what it can (and cannot) do for you.

training is the best way to maximise benefits from protein shakes, but if you dont train then its just a case of calories to gain weight, and testosterone is what will increase manly features so i dont think that protein shakes will do that

Yes they are.
It's highly unlikely you'll look like a man, (however much weight you lift), as you don't have enough testosterone. I'm sure you look good anyway!
