I've gotten tattoos and I've always tipped, but I'm not sure if I have to. I tip because I dont know how they are paid. Is tipping the right thing to do, or did i just kick this guy down with extra dough that I didnt have to spend????

You don't have to tip the tatoo guy, but I'm sure he was happy to take your cash.

Isn't it enough that you are giving them free advertising for the rest of our life? Doesn't make sense to tip. It's not like you'd get a tattoo you don't like. Anything that good should have the tip included in the price. Tips are for hospitality staff on top of what you give to the house, or for cab drivers who give service above what the fare is for. Many or most tattooists are mediocre artists anyway, making money off the easily impressed and fashion and easily impressed with themselves. No sympathy for them. The ones I've met are jerks. My tip would be "Get a real job".

If you think they did a good job, by all means tip. Tipping means To Insure Proper Service. If you got that great. I have never tipped, but I wasn't aware of the etiquette. I guess next time I will.

If you're getting a tattoo, why are you worried about etiquette? They don't even live in the same world!!

Save your money and by a nice dress, you will get more out of looking nice than you will showing people how much extra cash you have to blow on a silly tatoo.

Yes. Just as you tip a hairdresser, maincurist, waitress, etc. This is their craft and if they are good a tip is how you show thank them for doing a good job.

its not a bad thing to tip anyone if their doing something for you but i would recommend if youre low on cash you might just want to give the price you are charged and a very nice thank you when their done

If the artist does a really good job, and you are totally satisfied with his work, then it can be appropriate to tip. It keeps them happy and shows your appreciation.

Most of the time a tip is customary.

I do.
Its worth it to me to keep my artist happy because she does such a good job for me.
