Gaining muscle weight is a good thing. Perhaps you have been told something wrong about this diet and weight loss thing. The more muscle you have the more calories you burn at rest my dear. I am not talking about looking like Miss America, oh heck no, I am talkin about a nice firm body. You need to find a weigh loss plan that works for your body type, and genetics. Everyone is different, so not all diets will work the same for all people. Generally the decrease the calories coming in and increase the amount you burn is a great start. This darn interenet is full of useful information. Just be careful where you look.

OK, ignore exercise, and you are on a straight caloric diet. You need xx calories (use a calorie calculator on the web) to maintain your weight, eat less that that every day. Easy.

However, muscles do have a slimming effect and make you appear toned and healthy. By doing weight training, you will not look like Arnold. The "stick thin" look you are referring to can be unhealthy, and eventually, your body will make you gain the weight back.

Are you okay hun? Why would you want to lose fat and not gain muscle. It is extremely important in fat loss to gain that muscle. The more muscle you gain the more fat you lose. Yes you may not lose as much as you think you would like, do to the fact that you are gaining muscle but agian that is a good thing. What matters is the inches when you are trying to lose weight don't look at the scale look at your pant size.

Good Luck

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter your stats and it will tell you how many calories a day you need to maintain your weight. take 300-400calories off that number and that's how much you need to lose weight.
eat 5-6 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones.
5-8 servings of fruit and vegetables a day.
8 glasses of water a day.
4-6 times a week cardio work out for 30-50min plus light weight training.
no junk food, no sodas, no white flour (white bread, pasta, cookies, cakes etc)
