My husband was awarded the Bronze Star with a V for valor and a purple heart in Viet Nam, but never received the actual medals. How do I go about getting these for him?

Get with Veterans Affairs office in D.C., you can e-mail them, you will need his full name at that time, service number, branch, years deployed in Vietnam and any other pertenant info concerning those medals, lord knows he was there in Vietnam he deserves them, go get them and good luck.

Requests for the issuance or replacement of military service medals, decorations, and awards should be directed to the specific branch of the military in which the veteran served. However, for Air Force (including Army Air Corps) and Army personnel, the National Personnel Records Center will verify the awards to which a veteran is entitled and forward the request with the verification to the appropriate service department for issuance of the medals.

Congressman.

I actually asked a similar question awhile back for my dad's medal of bravery. I called my local Congressman and he was VERY helpful. He actually seemed enthused about it, called me almost every day.

Edit: I don't think this is the answer you were looking for. Sorry, misread the question. Still congressman may be able to help, those medals are expensive if you have to buy them.

I remember when my dad was in the Navy, you could use the paperwork from the medals being awarded to buy new medals at the base exchange's uniform shop.
