Depends on if you get embarrassed. A lot of people think it is a private thing and don't like going into a store to browse through merchandise. With so many things readily available online with detailed descriptions it is just as easy for those who want to keep it low key. Most people that get those kind of things don't mind going into a store because they figure anyone going in there and seeing them would be there for the same reason. Sometimes it is just easier to do it online from the comfort of your own home.

Adult videos can be returned to a store. I don't know about online. But Adult toys can not be returned if they have been used.
I would say Adult videos you could buy either way. But Adult toys should be shopped for at a store. The only reason why I say this is that I have done both. In the store you know what you are going to get and have Store keepers to answer your questions. And believe me someone in the store will know the answer. At first you might feel a little embarrased, but there are more people that just you in the store. No one will tell you are there, even if you know someone. They will probably think the same thing. It is natural to feel that way. It is also natural to buy Adult Toys. It adds to the sexual experience.

If your an adult who cares? If the toy store is clean and well maintained its nice to see the merchandise but I have no discomfort of people knowing I buy and use sex toys on my lovers.

I've never done either, but if I were inclined to buy an adult item, I'd probably go for the online, method.
To me, it's less embarrassing.

Definitely go to the store, this way you can return the item if you don't like it. If you buy it online there is NO guarantee that you will be able to return an item bought online.

movies, why pay for it? there are millions of downloads online for free, both preview 30sec clips and full movies (bittorents and on file sharing p2p).
