What is your take on the future of our military, especially the Army?

Question

Why are Active duty Army units deployed so often and for such a longer duration?
It has just been announced that all active duty Army units in Iraq and future units will spend 15 months in theater to allow redeploying units 12 months at their home station.
Why weren't Soldiers and their families notified before the media?
And why is it just the Army?
Marines still do 7 months and the Navy and Air Force only have a limited number of troops actually on the ground in Iraq.
It seems to me that the Army may not be able to retain it's active duty troop level much longer, while the Navy and Air Force may become more popular destinations for prospective enlistees.

the media always finds information first. even when i was at the 101, the news announced before we found out we were going to be deployed (this was back in 2003). this isnt a new thing.

This will take a bit, but the future of the Army being a retiree from is that once the war is over the Army will have to reorganise itself and set up new peacetime training standards for future wars, like they did after Vietnam. Why are active duty deploying longer is that not all Army units are deploying, I work for the Army on a base and the unit here is not deploying and I know of two divisions with no orders and two seperate brigades with no orders, don't believe everything you hear in the press they don't always tell the truth, remember a guy named Hearst. Marine uints deployed in Iraq are doing one year not 7 months. But I agree with you on retainability it is getting more and more difficult because of the war.

Breaks are only about 100 years old and only applies to countries that are mostly white. Soldiers use to fight until they died, were too wounded to fight or the fight was over.

Chances are good that the max the soldiers will have to stay is February of 2008 as the new president withdrawals the troops no matter what. They might be sent to Sudan though.

THERE IS A LOT OF TALK IN THE ARMY. SO IT REALLY DOESN'T COME AS A SURPRISE SOMETIMES. ITS MORE LIKE THE PRESS WILL CONFIRM THINGS.
I STILL RESPECT THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO SERVE IN THE ARMY, DESPITE MY OPINION ON THE WAR. BUT WHEN THE PRESIDENT CALLS FOR LONGER DEPLOYMENTS THEY STAY LONGER. THEY CAN'T DISOBEY A DIRECT ORDER FROM THE PRESIDENT WITHOUT BEING COURT MARSHALED.
