So while I was in the hallway today, some friends of my ex walked up and said that another girl that I have never met wants to go out with me. How should I approach the situation, should I ask my ex? ask her to point the other girl out?

I think I might have met this girl at homecoming, but I have never actually talked to her for a long time, never got to know her

No you can't ask your ex. That would be like a slap in the face. Like saying ha ha I have another girl interested in me. Why not ask the person who told you to point her out to you. That would be the gentlemanly way to handle it.

When I was in school, a group of girls came up to me in study hall to tell me a guy liked me. They went away laughing. I knew they were not telling the truth. I was an awkwardly shy girl and never talked to anyone. This guy was older than me and never even looked at me.
They could be joking. I would not even bother. If the girl truly exists she should come up to you. If you ever meet someone you like, you ask them out. I don't believe in the games of he said she said.

You aren't seriously asking this question are you? Sounds to me like you want to ask your ex who she is for the sole purpose of making her jealous. Do what you want...but in all honesty, it just makes you look like a jerk. No matter what she did.
