why does one became a muslim?

I am really into finding out what a muslim is? how does one became a muslim? How do you live a life has a muslim?

One becomes a Muslim by a simple declaration that "there is one God and that Muhammad is his last messenger" (Shahada). I live life as a Muslim pretty much the same way as any non Muslims lives there life with a few exceptions. Its the same as a non Muslim in the sense that i work, pay taxes, raise my children correctly am a law abiding citizen, cook, clean, work, shop, change nappies, work, cook, clean, shop just normal life like everyone else. Except my day also involves dressing modestly, praying 5 times a day, eating only halal meat, doing only halal things, fasting in Ramadan, reading the Quran. Basically following the 5 pillars of Islam.
A Muslim is someone who believes in one Almighty God and that Muhammad was his last prophet and we live our lives thanking God for what he provides us with and trying to please him by following his guidelines. Nothing very complicated at all.

Its not because of childhood indoctrination as our friend at the top answered. I lived 34 years of my life not being a Muslim and my parents are not Muslims. For me it was a choice as it is for many others.
And for one of your other answerer's information we have to be washed and clean to pray to god so stopping bathing is far from the truth. We have to perform certain washing rituals before each pray so...........nah nah nah nah nah :P

you live life purley and try to do the best you could so that you will please god and go to heaven. One becomes a muslim by saying shahadah and having the right intention of being a muslim
