so my dog ran away and she came back limping, my mom said just to leave her alone to see if it would wear off..and it did, but she kind of loses her balance..so we took her to a vet because i was terrified(not as much anymore, but still am worried) and the vet said that she probably gotten hit with something..and my jaw went wide open..but she said that she doesnt think it has anything to do with the brain because she said that she would be depressed and things like that..yet when shes at home..she seems depressed..doesnt wag her tail when i bring her leesh out which she ALWAYS does, and im worried that my vet was wrong..any advice? i mean my mom is fed up with me right now cuz we had to pay 320$ for xrays and other stuff today for the vet, so she doesnt want to go back again and spend money, i personally think it has something to do with her brain..like head trauma? brain damage? because she had/has the symtoms of trauma(i looked it up) should i just wait it out??

thanks everyone..i forgot to say that my dogs head is dented, the vet said that its a fracture or broken or something and they think that she'll be fine over the course of a few days and that it will heal over but will still be dented..and that there probably isnt any brain damage, when she was at the vet she seemed fine..but when shes at home shes very lazy and wont wag her tail at the things shes used to, depression? what are the symptoms of depression brought by dogs with brain damage/trauma?

okay, so my dog sometimes seems fine but then other times she seems like shes completely out of it or has no idea what shes doing, she seems kind of like "what the heck is going on" at times, and if shes sitting down she sometimes sways to the side and loses balance, and also when shes lying down..she doesnt really put her head down..she kind of just falls asleep with her head up in the air..i am going to call them tommorrow and see what is going on..also they had to sedate her to get her xrays and that could be the reason shes a little wobbly, how long does it take for anesthia to wear off?? if i have any other info that i remember i'll write it here..thanks everyone..

Ok, swetie she was just at the vet then she will probably be ok. If the vet did all thoses tests they are probably right. I would normally say get a second opinion just to be safe but if your mom is unwilling then I would watch her closely. She may just be hurting still. She may have gotten hurt and bruised a muscle or something like that. She did come back so that is a goos sign and she may not want to go for a walk if it hurts that may be why she is not getting excited about the leash give her a couple of days and watch her close. See if she eats and drinks ok. I think you are worried because you love your dog alot and that is great. I always worry about stuff ike that also. Think positive and watch her and love her and pray and I think all will be ok.

First off I would like to say great job being a concerned dog owner.
Second I would like to say that just because x-rays were done, and didn't show anything doesn't mean your dog is ok. x-rays don't show soft tissue (ie. muscle and brain tissue) they are best at viewing things like bones. SO the only thing you know conclusively right now is that your dog does not have any broken bones.
Like others have said I would begin by calling your vet and letting them know that you dog still seems affected by this experience and that she seems to be fitting those signs of depression now.
I would like to say get a second opinion but if you are unable to work to pay for the bill and your mom doesn't want to take her in again you may be stuck there. Definitely keep watch over her closely. Make sure that she is at least eating drinking, and going to the bathroom. Then I would just say give her lots of love and attention. Try to just take her out in your yard if it is safe and fenced or try to get her just out of the house on the leash. Don't go further than the yard of your house as you dog might be scad of going out and getting lost or hurt again. She may need time to trust going out again.
But above all keep loving her and telling her that, if everything is OK then she should come around.
Hope this helps, best of luck.

Did you TELL the vet that she in fact DOES seem depressed? Missing out bits of information does not help with diagnosis! Ring the vet surgery and update the vet who saw your dog - this won't cost anything, and they can then advise you whether or not this merits further investigation.
If xrays were done, it sounds like your dog has been very thoroughly checked and is most likely to be OK. It may be residual shock, or depression from being at the vets - I would say just update the vet and get his/her advice - and of course let the vet know if any further symptoms develop!

There is a chance that the dog does have a brain injury. Remember, you can't always trust just one vet if they won't listen to everything that you have to say because you know your pup better than anybody. I would say that if she is not acting like herself then bring her back to the vet or call the vet and just explain the situation. It may also be in your favor to get a second opinion.

She's probanly board give her a ball or a bone. Also beg your mom to take her to the vet tell her that if the dog dies you'll blame her. If that doesn't work also say you will pay and your mom won't want to see half your money gone so she will pay. Or she'll feel sorry because you love you dog so much so she'll pay. Hope your dog gets better soon. You must feel so bad my dog just died and I was upset. Your probably the loving home your dog needs at a time like this.

I work at an animal hospital, and that definitelly sounds like your dog suffered some brain trauma. The neurological signs where there when she was losing her balance, not to mention the obvious dent in her head. I think you need a second opinion....although, there may not be much they can do :(

How long ago did it happen?
Could she be worn out and exhausted from her adventure and then going to the vet? Sounds like shes been through alot of excitement lately, maybe shes just needing to catch up on rest.

As expensive as it is you NEED to get a 2nd opinion because the first vet might have missed something.Or you could go back to the same place update them what is going.
