Over a year ago I started praying to God and Jesus, as sincerly as I knew how, to show me the way.

I prayed for them to open my heart to show me the truth of the Bible. I did this under the guidance of one of the most sincere, kindest followers of Jesus I've ever encountered.

It is said that if you take 1 step towards God he will take 2 towards you.

Yet I have found that the opposite has happened: As I read the Bible with an open mind, I found it to be a "less than inspiring" book. I learned much that I did not know before (I still have a few minor chapters left to finish), but I discovered a book that is obviously based on myths (and to be honest, not very good ones).

As I talked to believers more and more, I realized how people could convince themselves to believe anything (have you ever tried to talk to a Mormon or Muslim for example?).

Christians, I especially want to know your opinion. Why has my search for God only lead me to become an atheist?

Kev:
I was more of an agnostic or panthiest when I started. I can't just turn off my brain and accept what people or a book tell me without it making sense.

You know why... HE ISN'T REAL.

Won't you please take another year out of your life and publish your experiences of this disappointment... The false promise of faith needs to be exposed as often and as thoroughly as possible. Thanks.

It's cliche'...but your prayers were probably answered..but, maybe not in the way you expected.

The Bible is vague and confusing...I think it all comes down to where your heart is...be a good person, do the right thing...trust that someday God will reveal the intent and meaning of the Bible to you...

Many here will quote scriptures...but, remember there is no ultimate authority on the Bible...except Jesus Christ himself...don't let others confuse you or try to steal God from your heart...by bashing you over the head with their interpretation of the Bible...that they say they understand so clearly.

No one hears you
You're society's infection
I won't judge you
When the blood steals life from you

Cast down and thrown away
You are the living dead
The needle numbs the pain
Of all your suffering
This is where the world of money changes nothing

Just a statistic in the shadows of the real world
The system's failing you just the way it failed me
Hell is home on the concrete where the city bleeds
America - home of the free - land of *******
disenchantment

Despair, emptiness
Isolation rapes you everyday
Face down taste the dust, digging deeper in your grave
Haven't found a reason
Haven't found a thing to ******* live for
Godless he doesn't care
How you choose to destroy yourself
In a world that feeds on hate
You're left here just to waste away
In your cardboard prison, asphalt wasteland

slayer: god hates us all

Skeptic, perhaps your name says it all.

When you, as an adult, are asked for something by a child, do you always give it? Is the answer always "Yes?" Is your answer always heard by the asker? Is the asker always willing to accept the answer when it is heard?

There may be lots of reasons you seem to think God has not answered your prayers.

Why has your search lead you to atheism? Perhaps you were already there before you started your search. Is that possible?

Theirs not a time limit on how long it will take your prayers to be answered. Maybe God is testing you right now because he wants to know how you truly feel about him and the christian faith. Prayers can be answered in a day, or on your death bed. They may be answered in a negative way or in a positive way, yet since you want to believe in this faith and you are trying then I doubt he would let it go in a negative way. You just have to let yourself believe and not think about the athiest world. You have to let yourself out there and d research on it if thats what it takes. It may take a while for you to believe.

Sounds like your prayer was answered to me. You asked to be shown the truth of the bible and you were.

Now that you know the truth about the bible you can begin your search for the truth about God. Prepare to be amazed.

god gives u what u need, not what u want. remember that no good dead goes unpunished. if u ask and god grants what u want then u will probably pay in other ways. it's god's way of telling u to accept what he gives u and be happy with what he has granted u. i don't go to church and i don't read the bible. but i celebrate what god gives me everyday and i pray to him and thank him every single day!

I do not personally believe that these books are worth the paper that they are written on.

Only thing that is worth while is if you follow a system that you know work and that is good and not evil in anyway.
You have to prove things are right to ensure you get it right. This is called being a responsible adult.

God doesn't exist. Of course, I think you realize that already. Congrats on breaking away from the popular religious superstition.
