my father and i are having a big arguement about shingles.he is trying to tell me that once you get it once you will never have it again.

i was told over 20 years ago by a doctor that i had shingles whenever i get stressed or my immune system is low i get another outbreak.

my father said this is impossible.

so does anyone know a link to a medical site to prove him wrong?

Shingles is caused by the left over virus that causes chickenpox. That virus is called Herpes Zoster. Once one has had chickenpox (and some can get this multiple times as well) anyone can be at risk for having Shingles and yes, breakouts can happen again and again for some people.

Check out http://webmd.com and also go to this site: http://www.painfoundation.org and look for a section called Spotlight on Shingles. If you don't find it on the homepage type that title in to the search box at the top of the page. It can give you a ton of info on Shingles too.

I had shingles a few years ago and was told by my doctor that you can always get it again. once the virus is in your system you can't get rid of it, it just lies dormant. try the american medical association website or webmd.com for more information.
