I was in a car accident....it was not my fault. We are going through insurance. I have rental car coverage on my insurance. Will this or any other factor cause my insurance premium to increase?

The answer is yes and no. It really depends on other factors that you're not specifying - like have you had any other accidents within the past three years or tickets where you were found guilty or placed on supervision. If yes to any of these then the answer is most likely as you are now a high risk driver. You may want to sue the person for the difference in rates if this happens as it would not have happened if not for their negligence.

Yes-not at fault accidents can cause your premium to increase. If you are an individual who just happens to be in the "wrong place at the wrong time" more than average, and other drivers run into you a couple of times per year-you bet your premium is going up.

If it was not your fault you should claim on the other person's insurance. Do not claim on yours or it WILL go up. After the accident you should have been given the other driver's details if he has admitted it was their fault. If not you may have to claim on your own insurance and suffer the increase.

Most often there were two or more cars at the scene of the crash. If your insurance is paying out rent car they will get it back, if not rasing your rates by not giving you the safe driver discount. Insurance is a necessary thing. You were not driving where the car could get hit your insurance thinks you were partly to blame

Any time you file a claim you run the risk of your rates going up. Your best bet is to ask your agent...the one who knows how YOUR insurance company works as well as the rules for premiums in your state.

If it's not your fault, then no. Insurance co's are heavily regulated by each state and cannot legally charge you for an accident that was fault free. However if you were partially at fault, even 5% at fault then they can.
