I have been feeding my dog raw for over 6 months with no problems. I know several people that have been doing it for years and I can't begin to explain how great their dogs are doing. None of their dogs have had worms.
You are on the right track, please continue on your quest to move your dog to raw. It is one of the best things I have ever done for my dog.
Also, please do not let the ignorance of others steer you away from raw. If they too researched raw and commercial foods, many more would switch their dogs to raw or at least off of commercial food.
As far as "if it isn't good for humans, it can't be good for dogs", humans and dogs are different. Dogs digestive tracts are very different from a humans, which enables dogs to eat raw meat with no problems. Raw feeding is very digestible and dogs are able to get all of the nutrients out of it. Unlike some of the commercial dog foods, dogs are unable digest and get the nutrients.

A raw diet is actually very healthy for your dog. They have natural antibiotics in their system to kill most of the bacteria and worms are easily taken care of. Something most people dont do that they should is worm their dogs every other month or so, feeding raw or not. So, yes, it can and probably will give your dogs worms but if you worm on a regular basis your dog will have a healthier life and live longer.
Dry dog food is what has shortened the life expectancy of domesticated dogs.... Proven fact.

I have never heard of this happening in feeding a dog a raw food diet. Just remember to feed your dog human-grade meat.

Here's some excellent books on raw food diets that I've read in my own research and I know that at least one of them addresses worms:

Give Your Dog a Bone: The Practical Commonsense Way to Feed Dogs For a Long Healthy Life by Dr. Ian Billinghurst, B.V.Sc. [Hons], B.Sc.Agr., Dip.Ed. -- I know that this one has information on worms.

Natural Nutrition for Dogs and Cats: The Ultimate Diet by Kymythy R. Schutlze, C.C.N., A.H.I.

Here's one that's not about raw food diets per se, but goes along those lines:

The Nature of Animal Healing: The Path to Your Pet's Health, Happiness, and Longevity by Martin Goldstein, D.V.M.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!

Think about it... Dogs are close relatives of wolves. What do wolves eat? RAW MEAT. My dog has been happily raw fed for almost a year now. It's the most natural way to feed your dog, not processed crap.

Look at your dogs teeth... Those were made to rip flesh, not eat kibble.

Our digestive systems are not the same as dogs. 1- Theirs is shorter. Less time to absorb bacteria. 2- Their stomaches have 5 TIMES more acid in them then ours. This helps them kill harmful bacteria.

Kibble has been around for 60 years. Dogs, millions. They survived millenia eating raw food. In the past 60 years, cancer rates and obesity has gone up in dogs. Why? Processed food. Raw is the way to go.

not a good idea. if you can't eat it, your dog can't eat it either...as in raw meat. your dog could very possibly get salmonella from raw meats. check your local butcher and see if they make a ground meat dog food...you have to boil it. or you can make your own dog food by boiling lamb, chicken, or beef. add some boiled/steamed brown rice, and veggies like peas and carrots. mash it all together. if your dog won't eat the veggies, try starting out with a very small amount of carrots and peas until he/she gets used to it, and then slowly add more until you have a combination of 1/3 meat, 1/3 rice and 1/3 veggies. you can also add chopped hard boiled eggs and/or cottage cheese. dogs are omnivores, not total obligate carnivores like most people believe. my dogs love fruits and veggies...raw or cooked. don't use any garlic...i know, dogs love it, but it can cause liver problems if they eat it on a regular basis. i used to give my dogs tons of garlic until recently when i found out about the damage it can cause. you will probably want to get some good canine vitamin/minerals or linatone to put in the food also. you should deworm your dog at least once a year. hope this was helpful.

Only if the raw food has worms or their eggs in it.

I was gonna say that raw meat poses the same risks to animals as it does to humans. But then I saw it was a chihuahua and almost recommended raw pork.

My GF is a vet and she doesn't allow the dog to eat raw meat. I figure she knows something...

why would you want to do this? I know with all the pet food recalls and all, they are still the best bet in proper nutrition for your dog. Raw food is bad for humans, and its bad for dogs. Just dont do it.
