I've worked in Manchester for a lot of years. Here are my personal favourites in the mid price range.

Chinese - Yang Sing or if you can't get in then the Little Yang Sing

Spanish - El Rincon De Rafa

English (and absolutely excellent) Mr Sam's Chop House - don't confuse with Mr Tom's Chop House - which is also very good but the food is much simpler.

Italian - Piccolino

Japanese - Teppan Yaki

Posh Nosh (i.e. big square plates and funny sauces) - Restaurant, Bar and Grill

Enjoy!

It depends what you want to eat, I've lived here all my life and the choice is great!

The Yan Sing in Chinatown for Chinese.
If you want an Indian go to Rusholme! There are also some lovely tapas bars in Didsbury.
Bouzouki by Night on Princess St is good for a lively night out with great food!
My favourite restaurant though is a lovely Greek place called Kosmos on Wilmslow Rd!!

See http://www.restaurantsofmanchester.com/ for loads of great restaurants!!

Hope this helps!!

China Town is an experience if you have never been, plenty to choose from. Yang Sing is a favourite of mine.

If you are out to impress book a table in one of the big hotels. The Lowry is where the celebs. stay these days. A bit on the expensive side and it is a short ride out of town.

If you like Indians go down Wilmslow Road in Rusholme to 'Curry Mile' There must be over 100 restarants there all cheap too. Try Shere Khan's. Alternatively parade up and down and find a crowded one. That'll be the best.
