Atheism is just a lack of belief in god or gods. In and of itself, it has no set belief.

If you are asking, what do I believe, I'll tell you. I'm a skeptic. I believe in an empirical world, one that reality exists. I believe that reality can be observed and reason can be applied to these observations. This is the best way to come to understand the world.

I limit myself from believing in unsupported presumptions. When I encounter an idea I look for supporting evidence. This evidence needs to be credible, and conclusions drawn from any it need not to run counter to reason.

I prefer the word existence to creation. We know that there is a universe and that it holds life, but the evidence is still out on its origin. Many theories have been expressed, but none conclusively. As no credible evidence has come forward to support a supernatural origin of the universe, I am not inclined to consider these suggestions until some dose.

The origins of life are also murky, but there is certainly more solid evidence to work with. The fossil record only gives us a clear picture of what happened after life began. I still hold out a final judgment, but do find the supernatural expansions completely unsupported.

We have learned a lot about human consciouses. We know that is directly linked to, and as far as we can tell, limited to activity within the brain. We can see the development of larger and larger brain pans in our prehuman ancestors. When did self-awareness begin? I can't say, but we can see the processes that brought it about. Again, the supernatural seems not to have played a part.

I hope I have answered your questions, but if I have not, please e-mail any further question. Thank you for asking.

In what do you believe?

There is really no such thing as an atheist belief system. The only prerequisite to being an atheist is to have no belief in ANY god, not just the judo-christian god.

as Richard Dawkins put it, we are all [or most of us are] a-Thor-ist, some of us go one god further.

Apart from that there are no other things that a person who identifies as atheist need believe.

I personaly believe in the big band theory as well as Darwinism as far as the creation of the universe and life within it with consciousness being nothing more than a evolutionary trate.

Thats the problem. Atheists try not to "believe", but understand what is known. No one knows how the universe came into being, or how life began, or what consciousness really is, but there are lots of ideas. Just like the link between magnitism and electricity was just an idea once, and some people back then ranted "It's Gods doing". It wasn't. Same with gravity and the motion of the planets. Same with illness and germs. All where once "believed" to be things god controlled, but sceince has proven otherwise.

Atheism doesn't cover that, it just covers the non-existence of God. So those would be individual questions, not to all atheists.

In my opinion the creation of everything can be explained scientifically through the Big Bang, which has evidence for it. The creation of life can be explained by abiogenesis, which has evidence for it (including successful experiments). Of course, using the word creation for these id accurate. Formation is a better word. Consciousness is part of the evolution of our brain.

As far as general moral/ethical belief system, most atheists in America are either secular humanists or libertarians.

As to the other questions, it's not a big issue for me. Like death, it's just something that happens. I'll look at history, science, religion, philosophy to see the range of ideas we've come up with so far. But I'm not set in stone on any of it.

There is no "belief system". Lacking a belief in a deity is enough, nothing else about what atheists believe need be the same.

Responsibility, we don't have to be threatened to be good.
Conscience ,Doing what is right and moral with out worrying about getting caught be magic in the sky.
Common sense, being able to make good judgments and accept responsibility without blaming our shortcomings on a higher being or falling back on " It was meant to be"

Atheism simply means without god(s). All of that other stuff could be anything. There's not really a constant with Atheists.
