I am somewhat disturbed that people would still have such unreasonable ideas about the age of the earth. Many, many people have dedicated their lives to the studies of geology, paleontology, and radioactive decay.

while it may not seem obvious to the average person, the planet on which we live is inundated with low level radiation and small radioactive particles. It has been discovered through long tedious and repetitive experimentation that these particles decay at a very predictable rate over time. Electrons are flung from unstable atoms and the composition of the material slowly changes.

Radio-Carbon dating makes use of this predictable decay principal to determine the age of organic and inorganic material. It has been proven through many other means such as geology and the study of history that this method of dating an object (i.e.: Fossils, pottery, skull fragments) is very reliable.

It has been implied by some people, whom most of which know nothing of carbon dating, that somehow the ages derived from the testing of many fossils are incorrect. They also imply that the geology in which these fossils are found is lying to us. As a critical thinker, it is your duty to yourself to ask the question: Which is more likely? That the endless body of experimentation and evidence and all those people that devote their lives to gathering it (with unremarkable pay) are lying to us or that a 2000 year old tome written by uneducated, primitive man simply did not have the answers.

To satisfy the inevitable curiosity of its followers, religion has seen fit to weave a tapestry of lies, misinformation, and ignorance to keep its followers feeling informed and comfortable. I urge you to read some of the research, information, and facts on the relevant subject and come to a decision on your own. It is a shame that in this modern age people could still be ignorant of some of the most basic facts of our planet.

I agree with the first answer you got. How do you know the rest of the world around you exists? What if your just having a very long dream and wake up to be 7 years old (but if your already seven lets change the age to 3)??? What if everything you have learned was fake? How do you know I exist? The only way you know you exist is because you are conscious of your actions and no matter how many times someone says that they are conscious you don't really know...

Definitely not thousands, maybe a billion, based on fossils and research

It's approximately six thousand years old. According to the religion called scientism it's much older, but just as Adam and Eve decided to do what they wanted to do, scientists do what they want to do with their data, even if that means leaving out stuff that doesn't support the theory they have invented to explain their religion.

If you think about it we are all star dust. All matter we see is
infinetly old. In reality all our methods of measuring age are inaccurate and we really dont know. I would guess billions.
