I'm all for freedom of religion, but do you think it should be illegal to brainwash children too far? I mean there are actually lunatics who are putting creationism on equal grounds with evolution, an undebatable scientific fact, with thousands of pieces of evidence. Please evangelicals, do not mention the word theory in this thread without first researching gravity and what the word theory in science means. They home school their kids and specifically tell them that evolution is false and creationism in 6 days is the truth. When does this become child abuse? They are closing their child's minds up, and only promoting hatred and bigotry to spread, some would consider this an especially hanus form of child abuse.

Pastor, in the early 70s 76% of scientists accepted evolution, now it is nearly at complete consensus. Please do not parrot blatant lies, this is part of the problem.

Teaching one's religious beliefs to one's child is not child abuse. Doing so in a manner which inhibits free thinking, alienates that child from someone else, causes emotional harm or distress, causes undue fear etc., - that is when anything a parent teaches a child, whether religious beliefs or anything else for that matter, becomes abuse.

That's definitely child abuse, they need to be turned in. In my opinion, a slight swat on the butt (even though I don't agree with it) is not really considered child abuse. But when you're physically harming your child, especially when you lose control while you're doing it, is child abuse. If your child is screaming and choking from the pain, then the "discipline" has gone way to far. Even a spanking shouldn't actually hurt. *IF* it's used is should more of a slight pat as an attention grabber, not a hard smack to cause pain. Discipline should not be meant to cause pain, it should be used to teach the difference between right and wrong. (Which is why I prefer time outs, extra chores, etc.) Constantly screaming at them is also a form of emotional abuse.

Yeah...to me that's child abuse, but no one seems to know what to do. Tearing a child away from the mother and father is something pretty unfathomable if the child is being treated well. But still..like the kids who are taught crap about minorities trying to take over, jews having a secret agenda, and stuff like that...it's sick.

The truth is that you do not believe in the God of creation and therefore you cannot abide anyone else doing so,please stop this false concern for the minds of children and have some backbone to admit the truth.

I don't think it qualifies as child abuse but it is pretty sad that so many parents want to shield their children from reality just to preserve their ancient beliefs.

The same is true for parents who inflict racist beliefs upon their children. Is that child abuse?
