well, i sometimes use piano music if i don't need an accompanist, but it should say who should play it on the top left hand corner of the music.

Piano music and Violin music are written in the same key unlike Clarinet or Trumpet. The problem is finding out which line has the melody. Piano music is written in Two Clefs, Treble or "G" Clef(which the Violin uses) and Bass or "F" Clef which is shared by the Cello and Stringed Bass. If you are reading a simple melody line, such as you would find in a fake book or one of those easy to play chord books (more popular with electronic keyboards) then you have no problem, but if the melody is hidden within the chord or down in the left hand, you are going to have to do some deciphering. In any case, if you can figure out which line is the melody, you can play it with your violin without transposing at all. Hope this helps.

Yes, of course, just find the melody line and follow it. The problem will come in if the melody line shifts from soprano, let's say, to alto or bass ... then it would all end up muddled. But if it is clear and straight forward you should have no problems at all.

Yep. Just make sure what you're playing is in your range - so nothing below the G below middle C. It's not great, but it's playable.
