I got a "parking warning" saying I am parking illegally and my car will be towed if I keep parking there. However, I am parked legally. It doesn't say anywhere that I need a permit to park there. How do I find out if it's a real warning not just someone playing a prank on me?

In Chicago it sounds like you are parking on private property and they are threatening towing, not a ticket which is worse.

If it's on the street dial 311 in Chicago to get the information line for emergency services and they'll walk you through what they need to know.

If it's private property as I suspect then look around carefully and completely to see if there are any warning signs. All it takes is one as you enter the lot to be judged sufficient notice in Chicago. Be careful.

Do what my friend did when the police told him he cant keep parking his car in front of his house. he went outside, took pictures at different angles of where he was parking and when his car was towed a few days later, he took the pictures in to court with him. he showed the judge that there was not a "no parking" sign anywhere around his spot. the judge dismissed the case and overturned the ticket and refunded impound fees.

He kept getting warnings because a "no parking" sign was supposed to be there, according to police.

just keep parking there and if the police visit you it is for real, or you could show your warning to the local police.

Just call your local police department and ask them who you need to speak to and find out if it's illegal to park there or what's going on....
