Blood in your stool can be from a variety of causes from bleeding hemorrhoids, ulcers, polyps in your colon. Next time you see blood in your stools, try to note the color. A bright crimson red usually indicates bleeding from a source close to the rectum, whereas if it is darker its usually higher up in the digestive tract. I would consider getting a colonoscopy to determine the source.

Bloody stool is usually not serious, but you should probably have it looked at by a doctor because it's not normal. Most likely you will be diagnosed with hemmroids, or maybe even a stomach/intestinal disorder, like Irritatible Bowel Syndrome (IBS). However, it's tricky because you mentioned you have no other symptoms. It's also important to know where the blood is. If you think it's actually IN your stool, then it's probably a sign of something wrong. If it's just on the toilet paper, it's probably a lesion in your anal passage (usually caused by lots of wiping). But if this has been going on for more than a week, I would see a doctor. If it's been a few days, I would wait it out, and if it persists, make an appt. with your GP.

Good luck. If anything, a doctor will give you peace of mind. Just relax for now and see how it goes. Other symptoms to watch our for are anal pains, black stool, more or thicker blood in your stool, cramping and/or sharp stomach pains and constipation. If you experience any of these, see your doc.

It could well be something as simple as an anal fissure which may result in blood in the stool. Haemorroids also potentially can cause similar results. the colour of the blood is also important. If it is a bright red then generally that means the bleeding is close to the anus. You may want to get it checked out by a doctor. If you are producing stools which are darker in colour than usual as well this could be a sign of a deeper underlying problem.

It's probably a hemorrhoid or anal fissure (crack in the skin around the anus). Both are made worse by constipation--you can try getting more fiber and water (metamucil, salads, vegetables), or an over-the-counter stool softener like docusate (colace) to use short-term.

If you have black stools or what looks like coffee grounds, this is worse because that means your guts could be bleeding higher up (stomach, etc). You should see a doctor right away for this. A small spot ofbright red blood is probably just from a hemorrhoid or fissure.

A couple of things you need to know about blood in the stool. FIRST: IT'S NOT NORMAL. You need to see a doctor.

SECOND: Bright red blood usually means that it is in the lower gastrointestinal tract. It could be from a hemmorhoid, or it could be from a polyp that has burst....an ulcer...any number of things.

THIRD: If the blood is darker and coffee ground consistency, then it's possible that the blood is coming from further up the gastrointestinal tract. It could be a polyp or ulcer....or anything.

You need to see a gastroenterologist if possible. You will probably need to have an upper GI or lower GI test. I've had both. Both of them were not painful. I was in twilight and an outpatient. This will help the doctor to SEE what's REALLY going on in your gut.

Best wishes.

If it's fresh-looking blood, it's less likely to be serious, but still needs looking into (literally--How's that for gross?). You need to have somebody stick a scope up in there and find the source of bleeding. Some primary care offices are set up to do this, and some prefer to refer to a surgeon or a gastroenterologist.

You probably had a hemmoroid or pollup pop or you have something much worse (sorry to worry you). Anytime you bleed out of your rectum you better check it out ASAP unless you have been doing the nasty in the nastiest of places, then use more lube.

You need to be checked. Blood in the stool is NEVER normal, even if it comes from a hemeroid (spelling?)

You don't need any medical problems to get that checked out. You are going to need a colonoscopy to see if you don't have any polyops in your colon. Don't put it off any longer. Go to your doctor now
