You alone cannot do that. Everyone must make an effort, but you can do something to help reduce pollution. There are so many ways you can do that that I'll only list a few. Cut down on electrical usage. Use appliances only when you need to use them. Use energy-saving devices such as fluorescent light bulbs and solar water heaters. You can even switch to an alternative fuel such as solar energy, biogas and wind energy. If you drive, try taking the bus, subway, streetcar or taxi. Cutting down usage of your own vehicle helps to reduce vehicle emissions into the air. For short distances, try walking or riding a bicycle. This produces ABSOLUTELY NO POLLUTION and keeps you FIT! When using paper or wood, if you're finished using them for their INTENDED purposes, trying finding other uses for them, e.g. paper can also be used for decoration or compost as it is biodegradable. The more you use them, the lesser the need to cut down trees to produce, which contributes to pollution. Also get involved in environmental groups; help to spread the word about people can cut down on pollution. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER! Finally, THROW TRASH IN TRASH CANS and not on the ground or in water and please RECYCLE!

Stoping pollution totally is impossible in todays scenerio but we can surely control it. If you want to contribute by reducing pollution you will have to follow more sustainable way of living. Few important things you will have to care about are:

TRY TO USE LESS FOSSILE FUEL
TRY TO REUSE THINGS
TRY TO REDUCE WASTE
TRY TO RECYCLE IF POSSIBLE
PLANT A TREE EVERY YEAR
TRY TO SAVE OUR FOREST AND GREEN COVER
USE LEAST POSSIBLE CHEMICALS

Remember each of us will have to try to reduce pollution as this is going to be one of the biggest curse for all living beings.

trading of sulfur dioxide allowances in dealing with acid rain pollution which allows facilities to find less costly ways to reduce emissions;
basing air emissions permits fees on the quantity of emissions and charging for the disposal of industrial effluents in water treatment plants;
requiring a deposit on beverage containers to encourage recycling, which now occurs in 10 states; many states have a similar system for lead acid batteries;
imposing liability for natural resource damages caused by oil and hazardous material spills, an incentive to encourage pollution prevention;
encouraging toxic emissions reductions by broadly disseminating information about emissions in communities in the annual Toxics Release Inventory; and,
promoting voluntary programs such as the Energy Star, Waste Wise and XL which reduce pollution by assisting and rewarding voluntary actions to reduce energy use and limit pollution
