My adult indoor cat, i have owned for aprox. 8 years is so fat it appears one could 'milk' her. Not attractive!
I give her lower cal. food, however, if she even sees the bottom of her bowl she will HARRASS you, yowl, circle and in general get her way.
She is a tard!
I worry about diabeties and heart problems.

good answers all. The facts are that she is already acrack-head (catnip) and this causes her to be insane only briefly, the laser light also she will play only if it comes within a few inches of her. I am considering a treadmill or lil kitty prozac what about lobotomy?

My cat is like this too, he doesn't appreciate an empty food bowl but he is on a vet created diet.

Basically i ignore him, and don't give in. Because if I give in once, then he will think i'll give in again.

It helps to have regular feeding times and split his amount of food out to two times during the day (i.e. half a cup in the morning and 1/4 of a cup before bed)

Obesity in cats is not good for several reasons. She is definately at higher risk for joint problems, heart problems and diabetes. You should have her evaluated by a vet to make sure she's not already suffering from one of the above conditions, and ask the doctor if there could be a thyroid issue that should be tested for. After that --->Tough love is right. This cat needs a strict diet! HOWEVER it is very VERY important that cat's loose weight S L O W L Y! They can get fatty liver syndrome from loosing weight too quickly (this can cause your cat's death!) Measure (with a measuring cup) how much food your cat gets in a day. Make sure you're feeding her a low calorie food, and only reduce the amount she eats by about 10%. Put her food down for a certain amount of time (say, 20 minutes) then pick it back up, twice daily. She'll harass the snot out of you, but you have to stick with your guns. Have her weighed frequently as to make sure she's not loosing weight too quickly (best to take her to the vet to weigh her, so they can keep track of her progress). If the vet decides she's not loosing, he'll have you reduce the amount again. It's common for a vet to want your cat to loose only a couple of pounds in A MONTH! Try and stimulate her to play more (feathers, laser pointers, cat nip). You've got to decide if it's easier to deal with the harassment, or giving your cat twice daily insulin injections!

By the way, the average adult cat eats less than 1/2 cup of cat food in an entire day!

I think the harrassing is the worst part, but it does not last forever. It might take a week or two for her to catch on though, so be strong. After feeding her, pick up her bowl and put it away until the next feeding. I've found that leaving the empty bowl on the floor only inspires more yowling. You may want to invest in a laser pointer. This will require minimal activity on your part while you shine the beam on the floor. Cats go crazy for this and it will help her burn some extra calories.

Good luck!

Ya, my cat is getting pretty fat. I would go take her to the vet so they could help you place her on a diet and plan.
She might already have one of those problems.
Like the other guy said, you can train your cat to walk on a leash. Just might be challenging.

Have her excercise a lot more. Also give her really healthy food for a cat. Don't give in to her when she wants more food. If that doesn't work, take her to the vet and have them give you some advice.

try some cat nip, so maybe she will play more. get a laser pointer & she should play with it & you can control activity. get her off her lazy butt so she can burn off some of those pounds. i have a 5 year old that was getting pretty "fluffy" herself & we inherited a stray kitten and she keeps fatty busy. it has helped her slim down.

Take her to the Vet so they can make sure there's not something SERIOUSLY wrong with her. She may have worms? She may have some sort of thyroid problem? They might be able to give you a perscription diet food for her.. If I were you I'd take her to the vet.

This may sound crazy, but put your cat on a leash and walk it. It actually works. Also play with your cat with a feather.

I would cut back on her diet slowly. let her out in the backyard for some excersise. get some toys and play with her, give her a work out daily.
