How can people believe in the bible and dinosaurs? One, dinosaurs aren't mentioned in the bible, simply large beast and Two, there is visible proof that dinosaurs exsisted. Someone help me out. Oh and please don't say "because" or " If you believe in god, then stop asking questions" or anything like that, 'cause truthfully, no I don't believe in god.

So it seems I've pushed a couple of buttons, good! But as for the word "dinosaurs" I KNOW that word wasn't around yet, i'm not that stupid. Oh and as for other things not being mentioned, stop talking about stupid crap from today. The only reason I ask about Dinosaurs, is for the exact reason that you guys have been telling me about the dragons and stuff... Dinosaurs were soooo big, it wouldn't make sense for them not to be mentioned. By the way I'm not choosing a best answer, but the guy who said dinosaurs are with aliens and Elvis, you're awesome!

There are dinosaurs written about in the Bible. In the book of Job a large beast with a tail the size of a cedar tree is written about. Some people try to pass this off as a hippo or elephant. I've never, in my YEARS of scientific studies come across a hippo, elephant or any other animal, other than a dinosaur that fits this description. There are also other large animals described that can only fall into the category of dinosaur. Just because the word 'dinosaur' wasn't used doesn't prove that they weren't around, that does nothing more than prove that the Bible was written before 1940 (I think that's the year) becuase that's when the word dinosaur was coined. Take it or leave it it's in the Bible and no animals that we have today fit the descriptions.

Dinosaurs was not a word back in that day. Dinosaur was made up in 1841 AD way after the bible was written. Additionally the bible did use the word Tanniyn which can be translated into 3 or 4 words one including Dinosaurs. You cannot name another animal that has a tail like a cedar tree except what we know today as a brachiosaurus.
The bible also says “He is the first of the ways of God.” This phrase in the original Hebrew implied that behemoth was the biggest animal created and lets see what is the biggest animal discovered... well according to the national geographic the brachiosaurus was. hmm.. interesting

Maybe it's becuase I have been reviewing experiements at work all afternoon and I am tired, but I am not totally sure what you are asking. If you are saying the bible is false because it doesn't mention dinosaurs, then I think I can help you out. Because the bible also doesn't mention the duckbill platypus, but that doesn't mean that the bible says it doesn't exist. I mean, if genesis would have an account for every creature on earth, it would be bigger than the bible itself.
Oh, and there is time in the bible where animals exist, but people don't. In the Genesis account, animals came before humans. There is nothing to say that he didn't change his mind on some things. Maybe they farted too much, and God was like, no.

I am a Catholic and I believe in both. :-)
The dinos may have been around for what would be a relatively short period in the history of creation. Since I am not a literal creationist (i.e. God created the world but maybe not in exactly 6 days - it could have been 6,000 days or years) I would theorize that perhaps the dinosaurs lived in the early stages of creation, before God fashioned man.
Perhaps a few species actually did walk with man but they would have been very scarce by then. It's possible, too, that some of the sea-dwelling dinosaurs were still around back then. Remember the "Leviathin" mentioned in the book of Psalms and the "great fish" that swallowed Jonah? Who knows.....?
The Bible would not highlight dinosaurs since it is a spiritual book - the story of man and his relationship with God.
Hope this is helpful. Just my humble perspective. A very interesting question. I'm eager to read the other answers!

The Bible was inspired by God, and written down by some 44 inspired men over the course of some 1600 years! But the dinosaurs were not inspired by God. So I don't believe in them. Ha! Just teasing, . . .
I believe in both the inspired, accurate, inerrant word of God, and the pre-historic existence of the dinosaurs, amphibians, trilobites, and ALL other pre-Bible and pre-historical creatures, because scientific evidence PROVES they existed, and I believe, NOT as many wrongly believe, that the earth is young and only some 10,000 years old. Rather I believe what 'good' honest science as proven over and over again, that God's creation the earth and the life on it, has been around for billions of years!!!
And once more, there is absolutely NO contradiction between what the Bible states in Genesis 1,2 and 3, and scientific discoveries concerning the origins of the planet earth, and all life on it!!! Only dishonest, bad, even malajusted, anti-social attitudes towards the real truth in both camps, . . the Creationists and the Evolutionists! I'm in the 'punctuated(periodic genetically engineered)origins of life camp, myself!!! Simply because God's controlled, periodic, genetical engineering of 'new species' from old species,at timely intervals explains the socalled 'gaps' in the fossil record best I do believe!

The Bible does talk about dragons and leviathons. The term 'dinosaur' wasn't even coined until the 19th century. Even the Chinese refered to the bones of those creatures as dragon bones.
Even if there was no mention at all it would only mean that they were of no significance to the plan of salvation for man that God set up since the time of Adam. There is no mention of cockroaches. Does that mean they are not supposed to exist according to the Bible?
If that is your only reason for not believing in God, you had better find another. Look around you. The laws of physics dictate that an intelligent design had to put all of nature together, not to mention in a way that it is sustainable. It can't happen by accident according to the second law of thermodynamics, though that law is conveniently ignored by those determined to prove there is no God.

Animals were made before man. No one knows how much human time passed between day 5 and day 6 when Adam and Eve were made. If dog days can be different from human days, why can't people accept that God's day is not 24 hours?
Then you might also be able to reason that between day 5 and day 6 it's possible dinosaurs existed. It's also possible that they could have been terminated during that time as well. No one knows for certain.
Their existance doesn't discredit the Bible at all.

The bible wasn't written by God himself.
It was written when religious people did not know any better. Although a devout Christian (Catholic), I do not think that besides Jesus's teachings, the Bible is completely true.
If you really want them to coincide, then think of it this way. Big animals were made after all the plants and such, and so were dinosaurs. And in God's eyes, from his all-seeing point of view, thousands and millions of years may seem like, well, a day.
I completely agree with you on what you said about people saying 'If you believe in god, then stop asking questions". I hate that. I want reasonable explanations. With Bible, we can't get reasonable explanations. That's because it wasn't written by one person- it was written by many many people, and none of them were God nor Jesus.
Devout Christians, please don't throw stones at me. It's me being honest here. :)

"dinosaurs" wasn't a word in greek, latin, arimaic or Hebrew, so of course "dinosaurs" isn't in the Bible. there is mention of two dinosaurs though, in Job; the earliest written book of the Bible: the leviathan and the bohemoth. so by Biblical standards, dinosaurs probably existed.
and that isn't really relevant, since God never said He didn't make giant beasts that roamed the earth, so science is right about their existance, but as for how they were wiped out or how long ago they lived, I disagree.
