If things are going so well, why do we have to increase the tour of duty? If our troops stay there long enough, can they apply for Iraqi citizenship? It seems like our military is paying for the current administration's mistakes. At what point will it reach the breaking point? Our involvement in WWII did not last this long.

Old guy: You apparently wrong. I served in the USMC 1968-71. Junior Bush will shake your hand with his right hand and pick your pocket with his left.

It is apparent from your question that you have never been in the Military or lived under a dictatorship. President Bush is one of the good guys. He's got a pair of balls and a Texas attitude that you liberal and socialistic wimps just cannot comprehend. He’s a Warrior. Go strap on an F-16 like he has and you may just get a glimmer of what he's really like. I’ve met him in Austin when he was Governor on 4 different occasions. He looks you in the eye, he’s got a really strong handshake, he’s friendly and has a great sense of humor. I like him as a person and as a President. History will prove he is one of the greatest Presidents we have had the privilege to elect.

You must think Freedom is Free. I'll tell you from experience it is not. The Soldiers in our military today are all volunteer warriors. They know the possible cost to them when they take the oath to defend our country and our freedom, but they are WARRIORS. They have the best equipment and the most lethality of any military force in the world, and damn well know how to use it. I served in the Army for 20 years and then as a DA civilian for another 20. I served in Vietnam with the 101st and earned a Green Beret when I returned in 1968. I worked as a Force Protection Specialist before, during, and after 9/11. Now I am an old man, but I still have the warrior attitude, mentality, and the knowledge I have accrued throughout my life. There will always be those that want what we have or just want to kill us for what we are. We must have the balls to stop that from happening. The present casualties are sad but extremely low for what Freedom has cost us in the past. Rest assured, if I were a young man again, I would be in Iraq now. God bless our WARRIORS, and peace through fire superiority...

So soon you all forget, or is it you are just too young to remember. Saddam brought death and destruction down on himself. For years, he arrogantly told the UN to go to Hell. He was given numerous chances over several years to allow full inspections for WMD's. He would not allow full and complete inspections. During all that time, I think he moved the weapons he had to Syria or buried them in the Iraqi desert. He did not think anyone had the balls to finally give him an ultimatum and follow through with military action if he did not comply with the UN sanctions. After 9/11, he gambled wrong. 9/11 changed the playing field on a world scale. Also if Colin Powell had not stopped General Norman Schwarzkopf during the Kuwaiti conflict, this last conflict would not have been necessary. You need to understand that we are at war. This War on Terrorism will still be going on when your Great Grand Children are grown, and will continue until either us or the Muslim Extremists are DEAD! Thank God, for the strength of our Military, and Guts of our President for making the hard decisions it takes to keep conflicts overseas and not in our streets.

Of course this is taking longer than WWII. In WWII we didn't sit in some dirtbag country and wait for the Germans to come to us. We fought the war we said were going to and marched on the enemy. If GWB would wake the **** up and go after the terrorists where they live and do some real damage to them maybe we could actually have some sort of victory out of all this.

it is not by fact they try greater by fact they do on no account. they only get into pop shot battles on patrols, precisely like those you notice on Netflix. that's there stay pictures. they are in simple terms the smallest scuffling with tension in the U. S. and could't save up with the army Rotations with out shortening there deployments. they do no longer likely have a project a superb form of the time consequently the Marines get greater days off than maximum infantrymen. no longer likely there fault in spite of the undeniable fact that, it truly is hard to combat an enemy that runs and hides everytime the combat comes. consequently the IED got here to be the form of massive weapon of determination for the Taliban, by fact they gained't stand and combat. They fairly in simple terms plant there IED's and desire they kill any American soldier era.

it shouldnt and it doesnt matter. the great Americans in our armed forces volunteered for (?) years and within those (?) years they can be put where ever, and for as long as, theyre commanders want them to be. they understood this when they signed up so if they dont like it i wanna hear it from them. our army will never be at the breaking point, i dont care what they or you throw at them.. and yea so maybe our involvement in ww2 did not last this long, but have we lost as many soldiers as in ww2??? you just learned more in 4 sentences than a week in the media whether you like it or not

WE ARE WINNING!!!

They're extending them so that when they do come home, they get 12 months between deployments. Not necessarily doing them a favor, but in a way they are.

I can only assume ofcourse, but I would imagine that it would be so they can sustain the level of progress that has been made since the beginning of the surge.
