I'm just curious why there seems to be many people who hate organized religions.

My issue stems from my many many years in catholic schools.

I think the "religion" that is organized out there, many times is by sincere yet perhaps... either spiritually immature, sinful or misled people who imperfectly organize their "church" and may have issues with an ungodly sence of superiority. This is what I think others percieve of as "organized religion" God can do anything however and can turn this around, although sometimes people don't allow Him to... they think thier way is the best. Yep, I've heard Christian people too say this all the time, although deep down they know thier way is not the best.
What people need to remember is that it is all about God and all about Love... and how He wants us to love eachother and learn from Him. The real "church" is within you, because that is where the Spirit of God truly dwells when you ask Him and not necessarily in a building or the confines of ritual and practice that is preformed without humbleness of heart, or connectedness to God. Without human humilty, there is no connection to the divinity of God (in one's life). How then can one be lead by Him to do the right things?

Because it gives people an excuse to hate people. Would the Catholics hate the Protestants if there were no religion? No because there wouldn't have been any fuel for the fire. Would the Christian’s attack the Muslims or Jews on here every day if there were no religion? No.

I feel like religion just feeds negativity. It gives people a reason to dislike another because someone does something someone else’s religion doesn't approve of. (ex. You could end world hunger, adopt half of the worlds orphans, and put half of the US homeless population in housing and be an Atheist and just because you're an atheist some Christians will snub their nose at you; but, you could just be a Christian and go to church not help anybody, not do anything, drink on Sunday, but at least you're a good person because you have the lord in your life and you're trying to be a better person.) Religion is just a breeding ground for hypocrisy

Equating the Catholic religion with all other organized religions is like saying that you hate all forms of government after living under Hitler.

The only thing more amazing than it's poor track record is its ability to act as if nothing happened.

They burned people at the stake for even owning a Bible during the dark ages. They instigated the Crusades. They have allowed molesting priests to operate in their organization largely unpunished. They blessed troops on both sides of WWI and WWII to go off and kill each other. A large portion of those involved in the Rawandan genocide of recent years were Catholic. Through the teaching of hellfire and purgatory they induced people to pay large sums of money for "indulgences" to keep their dead loved ones out of purgatory or hell (which amounts to extortion). There are many other things also that I don't have time to get into.

Few religions in history have done so many horrible things while claiming to represent God.

I think organized religion tends towards the same corruption that all large institutions, such as governments and corporations, inevitably tend toward. The shame is there is usually a good core of ideals in the religion, but people get caught up in dogma and maintaining the institution. The pickle is that people are always going to organize their beliefs into large religions, and thus unintentionally sow the seeds of new religions, such as how Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, and Sikhism have all developed as answers to the problems created in society by the previous religions.

The main problem for me is the fact that most organized religions don't encourage it's followers to think for themselves. That and that fact that certain religions proselytize and evangelize. Some want people to conform to the herd mentality. There are quite a few other issues that I have with certain organized religions. There are way too many to get into on this forum.

If I had spent many many many years in catholic schools I would have issues too.

"religion" is man invented... it is man's attempt to control the god, or gods, he has created. And, to attempt to impose the invented "doctrine and dogmas" of the so-called god or gods, upon others. For the benefit of the ones the so-called gods had made leaders.

There is only one True Church and it is not from any man invented "religion".

All who come to The One True God in The Way He prescribes will receive His free gift of Salvation. Those become part of The Body of The Church of which Jesus The Christ is The Head. Those are the ones of The True Christian Faith. Only those of The Church will enter heaven.

No man, through any man invented doctrine or dogma or "tradition", may dictate the relationship between God and His people.

Most organized religions turn out to be simply an excuse for those who are in high positions in them to gain and maintain their power over others. This is not and should not be the function of any religion. Religion, organized or not needs to be a vehicle for the religious to experience joy, peace, love and expanded awareness. To the contrary, most organized religions have the opposite effect on their adherants, causing them to experience pain, suffering, constricted awareness and loss of self esteem.

Just a little more digging in the true origin of all of them will convince you that they are so not from the true God and that Satan, who happens to be in charge here for just a little while longer had little to no trouble to get what he craved for... a form of worship the true God would despise, but which is good enough for him, even is the "poor fools" aren't aware of him, he's happy just to be able to use it to "taunt" the Father who expressed that very point at Proverbs 27:11
Thanks for this opportunity to defend the Creator by shedding the tiniest of lights on how He'd love to be worshipped, which is in spirit and truth... John 4:24

Oh Heather! Hi! I just saw you and truly hope that no one has ever done that to you... for with the severity that any human judges another, dictates how severely he himself will be judged! Nice to see you again!!! It belongs to no man bar none to judge another as all we really owe one another is love... even for our enemy so where's the room to judge? I send you my love!

That's a really good question. If I were less bitter about it I would have less venom in my answer. I believe people are incapable of accepting individuals for what they are so we end up establishing groups to justify ourselves and what we say we believe. On a personal level I try to do the best I can to be tolerant. I keep my mouth. In the end, my life is between ME & WHATEVER higher power exists and not the rest of the world. I choose not to justify myself or what I believe to anyone. Makes life less complicated and in my small world, that's ok by me. Good luck and thanks for the provocative question.

I don't hate orgainzed religion but it's not for me. Religion was created by man, hence it's full of human thoughts and ideas. It appears to be used to control people and I'm not letting people control me with religion.
