Okay... I am going to Europe in a few weeks and for those of you who live in London, Edinburgh, Wales, Dublin, York, and places around these... could you tell me what the weather is like in the middle of May?

The weather in the UK can be changeable at any time of the year. We very rarely experience weather extremes and certainly not on the scale seen in other countries.

May is often a complicated month, it can't decide if it's spring or summer.

For London the ave temp is 11°C / 52°F with highs of 16° / 61°F and lows of 7°C / 44°F. It's not unusual for temps to be quite a bit higher or lower, the lowest being 0°C /32°F and the highest beong 28°C / 82°F.

Be prepared for rain - it rains throughout the year in the UK with a 50% chance of rain on any given day. There can be prolonged spells of either wet or dry weather. The rain is rarely heavy but it's not uncommon for several hours of continuous light rain.

As a rough rule of thumb temperatures cool a bit as you go further north and the east tends to be drier and sunnier than the west.

The best weather is in the far south west, and the worst is in the far north east.

Scotland can sometimes have very settled weather during the month of May - more in the north of the country than the south. This brings dry, calm, sunny weather for two or three weeks.

It rains often. Make sure to buy a breathable or goretex type jacket if you are going to be about alot. They cost around 40-60 quid in country. But you almost never have to worry about 85 degree and above weather until July or August.
