Watches evolved. First there were sundials and then windup clocks with chains, etc etc. Eventually we have this nifty digital Timex, free inside cereal boxes or with your Happy Meal.

I don't believe in evil magical fairies, therefore, I'd pick the watch up, take it home, & advertise it in the lost & found section of the newspaper. Once the watch is properly identified, then it will be returned to the rightful owner. I think your spell checker is broken. Want to borrow mine?
