Pretty easy I'd imagine seeing as they are all coming in the opposite direction.

it's very easy,

in regards to some comments: It is poor in many places, censorship is not a big deal, it's usually self imposed by broadcasters and such. I found more freedom to say things there than i do in America. I was asked to teach about christianity in public High Schools. We took a field trip to an old russian christian church. People can critiize the govt, but you cannot try to overthrow the govt, that's a no no anywhere.

The people are very nice, they still love Americans and Brits to a lesser extent which is rare in todays world.

Your assualt charge may be a hindrance. There are many jobs for english teachers. You are supposed to have a visa when you go and you'll need one to get in off an airplane but once you are there the laws are very loose. If you know people or know people who know people, you can buy visas and stay as long as you like. You will only be arrested and tried if they don't like you, otherwise you can get away with almost anything. At the worst they'll deport you.

You need a bachelors in anything to get a teaching job, but if you are there anyway and you speak native english you can find a job unofficially without a BA degree.

China is not the nicest place in the world, Japan is much nicer. But china is cheap and an easy in, if more developed nations won't let you play.

Animal rights are a concern but it's not a life of oppression and misery as people who've never been there will tell you. I would not live there permanently because of the living conditions, but you cannot hate them because of thier living conditions. They're getting richer if that makes you think they're better people. Everyday they have nicer clothes and stores than they did yesterday.

communism is a joke, it really doesn't exist, the United states has more social programs than china does.

There is no such thing as a foreigner who has "Chinese citizenship". Foreigners can be "residents" of China only if they are heavily involved in Chinese society (own a company, marry a Chinese, etc). Even a foreign child born in China (or half Chinese half foreign) is not a citizen.

My suggestion, get a job in China. Let the company you work for arrange the right work permits. Extend the work permits as long as you wish. That's as close to "becoming Chinese" as you will ever be.

Problem. If you have a record you won't be able to leave the country. It might be possible to hide it from the Chinese authorities, but not likely the UK authorities. You could try for a pardon.

They just may not want "crazy" people coming in, though. And since you would HAVE to be crazy to leave a democratic/capitalistic (well, ok, socialistic) country to live in an oppressive, communist one, they may balk...

You do realize, don't you, that China is a communist country where 95% of their people live in poverty, are censored in everything they do, and basically live a life of oppression and misery, don't you? Good choice.
