S-10's can be a pain. After a while I learned the trick of just flexing the side of the dash panel outward instead of removing it entirely; I've never cracked one yet, and it's possible to remove the old radio and mount the new kit into place without removing the dash panel altogether. Then you can just install your new head unit into the kit while it's bolted into the dash.

If you're nervous about doing it that way, then here's the long and safe method: Remove the knee panel under the steering column, then the metal shield below that. You can then access the two bolts that hold the steering column up. Loosen the nuts on the steering column bolts; this will let you drop the entire steering column down to give you an extra inch or two of clearance. It's then easy to remove the dash panel over the steering column without breaking off the hazard switch.

i would just cut a hole in the dash at exactly the right place where you want to install ur player, and weld a holder into the dash. this way you get the custum look. you can angle ur player whichever way u want, which is usefull when u install one with an LCD screen. The hole can then be finished by closing it of with paint-on fiber-glass.
p.s. you have to have some body-shop skills to be able to correctly finish it off.

There are hidden screws all over. Behind the heater controls, radio, headlight switch and trim. just have to be carefull a look.
