They always first appear as icons (after I burned them and try to view) and it's a bit of a hassle to manually switch it to thumbnails every time. Is there any option to set the default view option to thumbnails or are icons the only option? The filmstrip option would be nice too but they don't seem to have that at all on CDs.

That is set in that folder's View menu in Windows. It cannot be set on the CD itself.

This has nothing to do with CD. It depends on the OS that you are using. If you are using windows. On the explorer....
Click Tools ---> Folder options--> Under view tab, check where it says 'Remember each folder's view setting'.

The view setting will be stored for ever and you don't have to manually switch it to thumbnails every time.
