No, NASCAR has not scrapped the COT. They have been working on it for seven years, and it is not going to go away. They probably referred to the fact that they are using the current/old cars this week at Texas, not the COT.
But, NASCAR has too much $$$$ into this for it to go away. It may evolve over the years to be more like the "current" car, but it will not go away entirely.

Some people are now calling it the "Car of Today"-either way, the initials COT are still used. However, NASCAR is using the COT on a limited basis this year and hope to use it full-time next year. The 'old' cars are being used this weekend, but the COT will be used again next week. If you would like to know the schedule for when the COT is being used, check nascar.com.

It's here to stay, though they are going back to the "old" car for the race at Texas this weekend. They were going to phase in the COT and looked at going to it fulltime in 2009. It is now starting to sound like they might just run the COT for all of next year. They will have to work out a few bugs first (foam in the door, fuel cable and brake problems), however, and see how it handles on the intermediate tracks and super speedways before they commit to that.

I hope so....It has to many changes that the drivers have to get used to.
I would say that where the driver sits now is more towards the middle of the car (offset) and that has caused a lot of adjustments for the drivers.
I am hoping that they scrap it all together, but with 7 years of development I find it hard to believe that NASCAR will.
I hope that they fix the exhaust if they keep the COT because their has been to many door fires and that isn't making the ride any safer.
Be cool....

No, unfortunately the COT is here to stay. But in my humble opinion, there's still a lot of work to be done to make them SAFE. Fire is NOT a good thing for racecars !!! The Car of Tomorrow is now the car of today, with prior cars called the Car of Yesterday, I think ???

Hey JAS. Did you know your bf Jeff is cheating on you?
And I think the COT will be fine. It just needs some racing to work the bugs out (burning foam and brakes). Its only run 2 races so far so of course its not perfect.

The cars suck and are fire hazards they need to go back to the cars the drivers are happy with before someone gets hurt.
