I was shopping in the store when the hoop fell on my car, denting 2 body panels and cracking the windshield. They had one of their administrative people take pictures and they filed a claim with some company they deal with. This was on Monday. Their insurance company (I think?) called me yesterday and got some more information and said they would send the claim on to a different company who would have someone come look at my car.

Should I notify my car insurance company about this, or have the Salvation Army handle everything? It is most likely going to cost over $2000 for the damages. I have full coverage insurance. I am concerned that it isn't being handled in a timely manner and they haven't asked me to take my car in for an estimate at a body shop. What should I expect here?

Contact the Salvation Army and ask for the phone number and name of the adjuster who is handling the claim. Call that person up and ask them for the status on your claim. It always takes longer to handle a claim if you are going thru the other persons company. They will always investigate the claim to make sure that there is liability on their part. They aren't going to call and ask you to take it to a body shop. That is your responsibility. They may be waiting on you to turn in estimates.

Call them to find out what they need.

Call your insurance if you want.to. I would call the Salvation Army's insurance and see what is going on with the claim. They should have given you a number to identify the claim. How long has it been since you have heard from them? It is has been over 3 working days, then I would want some information on what is going on. With the cracked windshield, you may not even be able to drive the car legally on the road. If you can't get any satisfaction from the insurance then start making waves and call whoever you can to get this straightened out. Good luck

It seems that your claim is being taking seriously by the insurer and they now want to assess damages.
I would go to body shop, get a quote and ask the foreman to take pictures. If after a few days you don't hear back from the Mall's Insurance, notify your own company.
Provide them with all information, contacts etc.
Your company can pay the repairs and sue the other insurance company.
Good luck. Gilles

I'd tell your insurance company about it. They'll probably tell you that you can claim in on your insurance and then the other insurance will re-imburse them. I'd not do that as it could muck up your insurance as it will show as a claim and perhaps cause your rates to go up. Unless your agent assures you, in writing, that it will not affect your rating or rates.

If the car works fine and is safe to drive then don't worry so much about "timely" unless it's been quite a while. Keep in touch with the Salvation Army and don't let it fall by the wayside.

Dont go to your auto insurance till that's your last option. You dont want this incident to go on your history. That will/may unnecessarily increase the premium on your insurance at the time of renewal. As far as possible get it done from Salvation Army's insurance. They might still ask for your auto insurance policy number and company. Clarify what they need this for before giving to them.
All the best!

Have your boyfriend take his motor vehicle to a pair of restoration shops for some rates to work out how plenty the restoration will value. Then he could seek for suggestion from together with his motor vehicle insurance organisation to work out what his deductible is. As between the previous posters has already talked approximately, it would not make experience to record a declare if the damages are decrease than the deductible. sturdy luck.
