Generally consumer antiaging skin creams have a glycolic acid concentration of 10% or less and a pH of 3.5 or more. A lower ph indicates higher acidity. Also each product is supposed to carry a label warning that the product causes increased sensitivity to the sun and requiring the use of a sunscreen.

Glycolic acid used for chemical peels are usually at a concentration of 20% - 30%. I would not use a 30% solution. Buy a more consumer oriented product, one with a concentration no higher than 10%.

I would Not recommend doing one's own glycolic peel as even an esthetician who has had a certain amount of training (not comparable to a dermatologist which I would go to instead) can leave a person with burns and scars. I would suggest discarding that and talking with a board-certified derm.

Here is a website that talks about different chemical peels including glycolics: www.makemeheal.com and can click on 'message boards'. There are several posts of people that have purchases glycolic or tca (for medium depth) acid from online to be diluted, however, that just seems too risky and to be done at one's own risk. Please do talk with a doctor about it instead.
